In the sunshine? Top tips for holiday hair

Claire gives your her top tips for looking after your hair on holiday. “Prevention is better than cure when it comes to sun damage. Here are my top tips to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy and shiny on your hols.”
■  Pamper your locks with a pre-holiday deep conditioning treatment to boost moisture levels. Treat yourself to an in-salon treatment or use the L’anza Healing Oil system at home in the weeks leading up to your trip. This ultra rich super moisturising treat gives extra conditioning, deep moisture and greatly improves elasticity leaving your hair looking healthier and stronger. Salon Director Adrian says “this is by far the best treatment when you use the shampoo, conditioner and heating oil as a system. I love it. And so do my clients.”
■  UV rays break down the protein in your hair leaving it frizzy and brittle so always protect your hair and scalp. Use a sun product with a high SPF such Paul Mitchell Sun before and after exposure to harmful pool chemicals, seawater and harsh environmental factors. I like this Paul Mitchell system as it includes a Sun Recovery Hydrating Shampoo, After Sun Replenishing Mask and Sun Shield Conditioning Spray. Everything you need to pack in your suitcase!
■  Hair getting too soft and wayward? After shampooing and conditioning hair, rinse with mineral water and leave in. This helps avoid over soft and fly away holiday hair.
■  Wear a hat or a scarf, especially if you have coloured hair.
■  The heavy metals in chlorinated water can turn hair, especially blondes, brassy with a greenish hue. A really useful tip is to rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water before your swim as wet hair soaks up less chlorine than dry. If you’re not near a shower my tip is to take a bottle of water with you to the beach.
■  Cleanse your hair immediately after your swim using a shampoo specially formulated to remove chlorine such as L’anza Healing Cure Clarifying Shampoo to avoid discolouration by chlorine. This extra gentle shampoo is sulphate free and perfect for hair that has been over-exposed to daily UV rays, heat and chemicals.
■  For that sun-kissed hot beach-babe look try L’anza Beach Spray. It makes casual holiday styling a breeze.
■  In the evening, wash with a gentle shampoo and follow with a masque to restore vital moisture lost from exposure to UV rays, heat and pool chemicals and creates soft, radiant, shiny locks. Either the Paul Mitchell Sun collection or the L’anza Healing Oil system will work wonders for condition and shine.
■  If you’re travelling light the Paul Mitchell Minis are a holiday essential. These 100ml sizes are a bargain from £4.50 each! Just choose any 4 from our pick ‘n’ mix selection and you’ll receive a FREE wash bag!
